The 9 Streets

One of the citys more local shopping areas is called ''de negen straatjes''. This is a quaint warren of cobbled streets that connect the main canals between Leidsegracht and Raadhuisstraat. Here you’ll find over 200 retailers, including a fine selection of independent boutiques, vintage shops and specialty stores selling everything from designer dresses to handmade cosmetics. This shopping area resides in the earlier mentioned Jordaan area!

Volendam

Take a day trip to an authentic fishing village called Volendam. In this village you can see the traditional wooden buildings/homes and  sample the freshly caught seafood. While there you can take a trip back in time with a visit to Volendams museum. It houses a quirky assortment of artefacts, traditional clothing and life-sized dioramas, which give you an idea of life in the 19th century.

The Zaanse Schans

The Zaanse Schans is a residential area in which the 18th and 19th centuries are brought to life. Stroll past the bakery museum and enjoy the smell of fresh cookies, or take a look at the warehouse where clogs are made. You should be sure not to miss the cheese factory, pewter foundry and the various windmills.
