History

Amsterdam is world famous for its historic buildings and its canals. Most buildings in Amsterdam are on the monument list with some dating to the 16th century.

Since august 2010 the down town Amsterdam has been placed on the Unesco World Heritage list.

Hotel Nes dates back to 1984 and the building itself dates back to 1890. The building  used to be a mansion, belonging to a wealthy Amsterdam family.

The building was occupied by the Germans during World War II. Most original decorations such as tiles and marble was lost during the war, after the war the building began to function as a hotel. Just after WW2  the building was used as a hotel to house American and Canadian soldiers, mostly black, due to the segregation laws of that period.

Hotel Nes was bought and totally renovated  in 1984, it is now a very popular 3 star hotel catering to the needs of tourists and business travellers.
